BOOTHY’S ROUND-UP

17 April 2014

Town legend Andy recaps his last fortnight

Thanks for reading the latest instalment of my community round-up!

Usually I can focus on all the fantastic things our club is doing across the community, but this week my attention is on one thing – getting fit and ready for the Pink Link ‘Pedal for Pounds 5’!

The ride is now under a week away, and I know from the previous rides that it will be a real challenge once again this year. I’ve been trying to get in the gym and on my bike as much as I can in preparation for Wednesday’s departure.

Despite the hard work and graft that completing the mammoth journey from London to Huddersfield will entail, I’m actually really looking forward to getting underway. The camaraderie you form with the other cyclists over the four days is an experience that is hard to replicate, plus we have almost 300 people all raising money for absolutely terrific causes in the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and our own Academy via the ‘Keep It Up’ campaign.

I know a lot of generous Town fans have already donated something to the cause; thank you very much if you are one such supporter. If you haven’t, there is still time – visit www.justgiving.com/keepitupcampaign

Between my training, I’ve been out and about in our community as usual spreading the word about Huddersfield Town. In early March I visited the Huddersfield Town Success Centre, which is based at the John Smith’s Stadium and helps local youngsters improve their literacy and numerical skills. The year six class from our school partner St. Thomas’ in Bradley has just completed an eight week programme ahead of their SATs and I dropped in to congratulate them!

I returned to the Study Support Centre to surprise another group of students later in the month and this time our goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson joined me, which went down very well with the students.

Tomorrow we have another big event on – our Good Friday Family Day at PPG Canalside. There’s lots in store for kids and adults (click HERE for a full preview) and the first 200 children to arrive will receive a free Easter Egg! I hope I see lots of you at the training ground tomorrow – and then at the ground for the game.
