CALLING ALL JUNIOR CLUBS!

1 May 2014

PPG Cup competition in May filling up fast!

Are you involved in running a local junior football club?

If so, you need to get involved in Town’s biggest ever junior football competition with some wonderful prizes on offer!

Huddersfield Town is set to host its inaugural 'PPG Cup' Junior Football Tournament at PPG Canalside. It gives you and your players the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the likes of James Vaughan, Adam Clayton and Adam Hammill by playing at the Club’s official training ground!

The six-a-side tournament, which will be one of the first in the summer football calendar, was initially only scheduled to take place over one day, but due to the high level of demand from Town’s partner clubs it has now been extended over the entire weekend of 17 and 18 May 2014 and is now open to all clubs!

The Under-8, 9 and 11 competition are now completely full on both days, with limited spaces available in the other age groups.

Huddersfield Town Chairman Dean Hoyle said:

“PPG Canalside is a community facility and it has always been in my mind to host a big community tournament as soon as we could. It is a what the Club is all about. It will be great to see lots of young players in action and it will be a fitting finale to the season at the Club.  It’s no surprise there has already been huge interest. I can’t wait for the day!”

There are already junior teams from across the region taking part in this bumper weekend of football.  Several of the biggest clubs from Huddersfield and the surrounding area are already involved including Westend Lions & Tigers, Brighouse Juniors, Dalton Dynamoes, Uppermill, Lepton Highlanders, Golcar, Great Harwood Rovers (from Blackburn), Upperthong, Rastrick, Gomersal & Cleckheaton, Cumberworth, Clifton Rangers, Ossett Albion Juniors, Greetland Goldstars, Hepworth, Huddersfield YMCA, Challenge Juniors, Honley, Battyeford, Skelmanthorpe Juniors, Kirkheaton Youths, Netherton Dragons, Dewsbury Rangers, Norristhorpe Juniors and Howden Clough.

The tournaments promises to be great day out and fun for all the family, with plenty to keep players, parents and families entertained over the course of the day on top of the exciting on the pitch action.

Face painters will be on site for the younger spectators, the ever-popular ‘Terry the Terrier’ will make an appearance, refreshment will be available from the kitchen and there are also fully licensed bar facilities available inside.

There will also be a 'Paint Pot' challenge provided by PPG, whilst Town's 'Football in the Community' department will have its speed gun at the training ground to test your power!

As an added bonus, you will also be able to get your picture taken with the Johnstone's Paint Trophy thanks to PPG!
