BENNO: ALEX IS A TOP ‘KEEPER

17 April 2014

Number 2 talks exclusively in Brighton GUAH

Huddersfield Town fans’ favourite Ian Bennett spoke exclusively to Give Us An H about his time in the game, Alex Smithies and what lies ahead for the 42 year-old stopper.

The former Sheffield United and Leeds United stopper has made 74 appearances for the Terriers and admitted that he believes his time at the Club couldn’t have gone any better.

“Lee Clark wanted me to help and put pressure on Alex Smithies when he signed me and I believe I have done both of those things.”

On how the role between the sticks has changed over the course of his career, he said: “Goalkeeping used to just be about making saves, but the position has changed a lot. A lot of focus goes into distribution and your game as a whole. The role of the goalkeeper is constantly evolving; we are becoming almost an 11th outfield player.”

He was also full of praise for fellow stopper Alex Smithies following his error at Derby: “Every mistake is magnified. You learn from your mistakes though, and I wasn’t concerned at the affect that it would have on him. There isn’t a goalkeeper in the game that hasn’t made an error and it is about how you react. He went on to make two or three great saves as the game continued; he would have learned a lot about himself that afternoon.”

Good Friday’s edition will also feature pictures and reaction from the Derby defeat; a look back at a famous Town player who wore the number 27 shirt and the key events that happened on midfielder Duane Holmes’ birthdate.

There is also a feature interview with former Terrier Tom Cowan, which isn’t to be missed!
