Town’s top scorer scoops major accolade
James Vaughan was added to a prestigious list of Town favourites including Mally Brown, Mark Lillis, Tom Cowan and Iwan Roberts by winning the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy as the Player of the Year at the 2013 Annual Awards this evening.
The popular striker received over 50% of the votes from Town supporters and lifted the trophy at the packed ceremony at Cedar Court Hotel in Huddersfield tonight – becoming only the second ever loanee to do so in the process behind Leon Knight.
Vaughan also won the Golden Boot award on the evening, which was sponsored by Robertson Baxter, whereas winger Danny Ward won the ‘Most Assists’ accolade.
Other winners on the night included ‘keeper Alex Smithies, who was voted by the Town players as their ‘Player of the Year’, whilst defender Murray Wallace capped his debut season by winning the Players’ ‘Young Player of the Year’ – the award for players aged under 21.
Duane Holmes capped a great year with the Under-18s by winning the Antoni’s Memorial Trophy as Academy Player of the Year.
Peter Clarke was voted by Town’s local media as their Player of the Year, while Alan Lee – the overwhelming favourite – won the jovial ‘Worst Haircut’ Award!
