Club raises profile for three charity partners
Huddersfield Town celebrated three important Yorkshire-based charities at Saturday’s game against Ipswich Town.
Town’s ‘charity focus’ match against the Suffolk side was dedicated to the Hollybank Trust, the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and Yorkshire Cancer Research; the Club’s chosen charity partners for the current season.
All three charities brought their mascots to the game to meet Town’s younger supporters and take part in a special half-time penalty shootout contest. Yorkshire Cancer Research’s Clanger, who also had a stall in the Fantastic Family Stand, joined the bears of Hollybank and Forget Me Not for the contest – but it was Terry the Terrier who ran out as the winner!
All three charities also put representatives forward to form the special ‘guard of honour’ as both teams entered the field of play for the 3pm kick-off.
Information about the vital work all three charities are involved in across our region was also displayed on the Stadium’s big screen throughout the day, with further details in Town’s match day magazine (click HERE to download an online version now!).
Huddersfield Town’s Supporter Partnerships Manager Robyn Deegan commented:
“We hope that Saturday’s focus game has helped to inform some of our supporters on the fantastic work that our three charity partners carry out across the region.
“Huddersfield Town fans have a track record of being incredibly generous when it comes to community and charity work – you only have to look at the tremendous amount raised for the ‘Keep it Up’ campaign for proof of that – and hopefully the charities will benefit from the profile the game gave them.”
There was plenty more to interest Town fans off the pitch on the day, with ‘Escape to Victory’ star and former Ipswich Town man John Wark taking part in a pre-match Q&A session at Canalside Sports Complex before making his way to the Stadium for a spell in the White Rose Club and to make the half-time Golden Gamble draw (click HERE for full details).
There was also a first trip to Huddersfield Town for several seven year-olds thanks to Town’s ‘Terrier 7s’ scheme, with Development Squad members Jordan Sinnott and Matt Crooks handing out replica shirts to the fans of the future!
