Mullin hat-trick secures third straight win

Three goals from striker Paul Mullin gave Town’s Under-18 side a 4-1 win over visitors Wigan Athletic in the Under-18 Professional Development League at Canalside Sports Complex this morning.

The striker celebrated the offer of his first professional contract in midweek with a hat-trick to extend the Under-18’s winning streak to three games.

Town took the lead as early as the eighth minute when right back Thomas Briggs’ long throw was helped into the area by big centre half William Boyle and nodded home at the back post by Mullin.

Wigan fought back hard and deservedly equalised in the 38th minute when a free kick evaded everyone in a crowded penalty area and dropped in at the back post, but Mullin restored Town’s advantage five minutes into the second half by rounding the goalkeeper and placing the ball into the empty net.

Under-15 player Regan Booty scored with 10 minutes to go, latching onto a pass from a trialist before firing home.

Mullin completed his first hat-trick for the Club in the final minute of the game to cap a superb team performance from Frankie Bunn and Tony Carss’ men.

Town’s team (4-2-3-1):
Ed Wilczynski; Thomas Briggs, William Boyle, Joe Wilkinson, Bradley Carroll; Danny Morton, Ben Holmes (Regan Booty 80); George Conway (Rekeil Pyke 84), Kedesh Goddard (c), Jake Charles (Trialist 71); Paul Mullin
