Bojaj brace seals League win

After a brave FA Youth Cup Quarter Final defeat at Fulham in midweek, Town’s Under-18 side bounced back with a 4-2 Professional Development League 2 North win over Sheffield Wednesday at PPG Canalside on Saturday morning.

Striker Flo Bojaj led the way for the young Terriers with an impressive brace, with this win set to reinforce Town’s gap at the top of the division – which already stood at nine points with two games in hand ahead of kick-off.

However, they were forced to work hard for the victory by a resilient visiting side. The Owls actually took the lead in the 10th minute when a great free kick delivery into area was stabbed home by Wednesday striker, who got to the ball in front of ‘keeper Sam Guthrie

However, Bojaj responded within a minute with a great individual strike. The Albanian youth international picked the ball up on the right side and drifted past challenges before striking low into the net from just inside the box.

Town took control and subsequently the lead in the 25th minute. Midfielder Philip Billing found left back Mikey Starkey, whose cross into area was controlled by Jake Charles. The forward took a touch before producing a neat turn and shot into the corner.

It took Town just 19 second-half seconds to extend their lead. Billing found Charles in the channel and he cut ball back to Bojaj, who dummied a defender expertly before coolly slotting the ball home.

Town Captain Joe Wilkinson hit the post from Charles’ free-kick in the 66th minute and the visitors took full advantage of the let-off two minutes later, reducing the arrears with a superb curling effort into top corner.

Stopper Guthrie made two good saves to keep his side in front before two Town substitutes combined in the final minute to seal victory. Under-16 winger Jack Boyle squared the ball to Under-16 teammate Regan Booty, who finished with aplomb.

Wednesday’s disappointment was doubled soon after when their ‘keeper was shown a red card for foul and abusive language.
