Frankie Bunn discusses new arrival
Huddersfield Town has recruited a new Academy striker ahead of the start of the 2013/14 Professional Development League 2 season.
17 year-old Florent Bojaj is set to join the Academy after a successful three week trial period under the surveillance of Frankie Bunn and Tony Carss.
Standing at just over six feet tall, Flo has been a regular scorer for Borehamwood Youth’s Under-18 side in Hertfordshire, which brought him to Town’s attention.
Town’s Professional Development Coach Frankie Bunn (pictured) explained:
“Although the promotion of younger players from the under-16 squad will be very good experience for them, we’ve also been looking to add strikers to the group in order that we can take a bit of the weight off the younger boys in terms of the amount of football they are being asked to play at a very challenging level.
“Flo strengthens the forward areas. He’s coming into full time football as a late developer. Technically he’s very good and there is lots of scope for improvement and development. A full time environment offers the chance to unlock that.
“It’s a great opportunity for him. Paul Mullin came into football in similar fashion last season and signed his first professional contract this summer, so we’re hoping those achievements come in a similar vein for Flo.
“As with all the Academy scholars, the ball is now in his court. A lot of hard work is needed if the players are to become professional footballers, particularly as we are trying to raise the bar at Huddersfield Town.”
Florent’s arrival has capped a productive week for the Academy ahead of their first League game at home to Coventry City on Saturday, with Danish midfielder Philip Billing’s international clearance coming through on Monday. The Club received notification via FIFA at the beginning of this week and only one remaining piece of legislation needs to be completed before the former Esbjerg midfielder can play in competitive games for Town.
Frankie continued: “It’s been a great week and when Kedesh Goddard and Ben Holmes return from the injury list that will strengthen us even further. We’ve played most of pre-season with a young team – only two or three from the side that reached the League final last year have been playing.
“That’s been good for the younger ones and competition for places will really hot up this season.”
Supporters can come and see the Academy’s Under-18 and Under-16 sides in action on Saturday at Canalside and also enjoy the new facilities, with kick-off scheduled for 11.30am.
