First Team quartet get minutes in resounding win

- HTAFC U23s beat QPR 6-2
- Murphy, Paurević, Stanković and Billing all play
- Booty (2), Stanković, Pyke, Boyle & Carvalho score

Four players from David Wagner’s First Team squad got valuable minutes under their belts as Town’s Under-23 side recorded a resounding home win over QPR at PPG Canalside on Sunday afternoon.

Goalkeeper Joe Murphy and Croatian midfielder Ivan Paurević featured for Frankie Bunn’s side as overage players, whilst 20 year-olds Jon Gorenc Stanković and Philip Billing also started.

Trialist Alex O’Hanlon – a left back formerly of Liverpool FC – also made a second appearance for Bunn’s Development side.

It was the away side that actually took the lead on a sunny afternoon, with former Monaco midfielder Axel Prohouly breaking from halfway before firing home.

Bunn’s youngsters responded quickly, equalising inside three minutes. A pass found striker Rekeil Pyke’s excellent run into the channel and he picked out captain Regan Booty’s driving run into the penalty area, who made no mistake with his finish.

Town took the lead for the first time in the game in the 23rd minute, with Slovenian Under-21 international centre half Stanković heading home Booty in-swinging corner from close range.

The Terriers effectively sealed the game with a quick-fire brace in the final minutes of the half.

Pyke scored the first, shooting past the ‘keeper after the ball was set by attacking midfielder Jack Boyle.

There was still time for another, with some excellent combination play around the QPR box ending with a nice finished from Boyle after another cut back from Booty.

The fifth came just before the hour mark, with Booty (pictured above) – playing further forward on the left wing on the day – netting his second of the game with his favoured left foot.

Rangers reduced the deficit in the 72nd minute when Brandon Adams hit a crisp finish into the bottom right-hand corner, but the final goal of the game went to Town to make it 6-2. Some loose play from the visitors let Town regain possession in the attacking third, with attacker Denilson Carvalho scoring his first goal for the Club since joining as an U18 scholar in the summer.

Town’s team (4-2-3-1):
Joe Murphy; Alex O’Hanlon, Fraser Horsfall, Jon Gorenc Stanković (Danny Kane, 61’), Jacob Hanson; Philip Billing, Ivan Paurević (Dom Tear, 61’); Regan Booty (c), Jack Boyle (Denilson Carvalho, 84’), Lewis O’Brien; Rekeil Pyke
