Bunn & Dyson goals secure latest win

- Town Under-23s beat Nottingham Forest
- Harry Bunn & Olly Dyson score in 2-0 victory
- Fourth straight win for Frankie Bunn's youngsters

Huddersfield Town’s Under-23 side recorded a fourth successive Professional Development League victory on Monday afternoon, defeating host Nottingham Forest by two clear goals.

The game, which was played at Alfreton Town’s Impact Arena, featured further game time for First Team squad members Sean Scannell, Harry Bunn, Joel Coleman and regular Under-23 skipper Regan Booty.

Scannell played the planned 45 minutes, whilst Bunn got on the scoresheet playing in the number 10 slot behind the game’s other scorer, 17 year-old striker Olly Dyson.

This win kept Town’s slim hopes of a top two finish – and Play-Off campaign – alive, with two games of the regular season remaining.

There were chances for both sides in a competitive game, with only a vital interception from Town’s Ireland Under-21 international centre back Danny Kane preventing Yassine En-Neyah from running clear on goal.

The Terriers survived an 18th minute penalty shout for handball before creating their first chance of the game soon after. Scannell powered past the left back in typical fashion before crossing towards midfielder Lewis O’Brien at the far post, only for defender Jordan Gabriel to block his effort well.

Gabriel was in action at the other end moments later, firing over Coleman’s bar after initial good work from striker Virgil Gomis.

The game opened up into an end-to-end affair at this stage; first O’Brien scuffed another effort straight at the goalkeeper before Coleman was called into action too.

Bunn opened the scoring in the 26th minute in impressive fashion. After receiving a pass 25 yards out, Harry burst past a challenge before firing the ball low past goalkeeper Jordan Wright in comprehensive style.

The attacking midfielder was sent off in the Under-23s’ previous victory over Colchester United, but suspensions don’t kick for a fortnight at non-First Team level. Bunn’s availability for the First Team will remain unaffected throughout.

Coleman held Iacovitti’s 30-yard piledriver on the half-hour mark as Forest tried to respond, but instead it was Town that doubled the advantage before the first 45 minutes drew to a close.

Frankie Bunn’s side is excellent at set pieces and it was no surprise that the second started with a corner. Booty played it in and when Harry Bunn nodded the ball back across goal, Dyson controlled before spinning neatly and beating Wright with his shot.

Town finished the half strongly, with Bunn forcing Wright into a good save after cutting in from the right and shooting before attacking midfielder Jack Boyle saw his penalty appeal turned down after going down in the box.

Iacovitti and Gomis both failed to find the target with efforts as the second-half rumbled on, with Town substitute Denilson Carvalho firing inches over on the hour mark after some impressive work on the ball.

Kane produced another important challenge in the 67th minute, this time to deny Gomis, before Coleman produced his best save of the game two minutes later.

In the end, the game finished quietly as Town secured the win. The final meaningful effort of the game came from Boyle, who was unfortunate to see his free-kick from fully 30 yards out hit the top of the net rather than nestle in it.
