Huddersfield Town’s Under-23s beat Crewe Alexandra 2-1 at Alexandra Park on Monday 6 February 2017 in the Professional Development League thanks to goals from Denilson Carvalho and Rarmani Edmonds-Green.

Frankie Bunn’s starting line-up featured Joel Coleman, who has made three First Team appearances this season, and Joe Lolley, who has recently returned to the First Team set-up after an injury he picked up earlier this season. The eleven also included trialists Frankie Mulhern and Ryan Hill.

Town started the game promisingly with the best chances falling to lone striker Mulhern; the youngster rounded the Crewe ‘keeper but had his goal bound effort cleared off the line by a back-tracking defender.

His best chance of the match fell just after, the ball was passed across the ‘keeper to him after a good move forwards but he placed his effort wide of the open goal.

Frankie Bunn’s young side continued to create chances. Lolley fired over from range after cutting in from the right before Town’s other trialist, Hill, blazed over from 20 yards out.

The youngsters managed to limit Crewe to very little chances with Coleman only being called into action to collect crosses into his area.

Town’s dominance continued into the second half, another chance fell Lolley’s way but this time his curling effort was denied by the post.

In the 69th minute, Town’s dominance led to a goal. Denilson Carvalho’s shot from range was deflected into the top corner.

Following the goal, Town carried on pressing Crewe back and just 10 minutes the later the youngsters doubled their lead; this time Rarmani Edmonds-Green head home Regan Booty’s out-swinging corner.

The Terriers’ two goal cushion didn’t last long as in the 84th minute the home side pulled one back after a cross from the left hand side was tapped in by Joe Lynch.

In the dying minutes of the match there was enough time for one more chance. Carvalho’s attempted cross into the area was tipped onto the bar by the Crewe ‘keeper.

Highlights will be made available on HTTV later this week.
