Huddersfield Town has today appointed Tony Carss to a role as Head of Academy Coaching.

In this role, Carss will oversee all coach education and coaching philosophy within the Academy.

Tony will work with Academy Manager Steve Weaver to develop a Coach Education Programme to maximise the development potential of each coach.

He will also ensure that Town’s playing style and identity is implemented and tailored throughout the Academy age groups and will also monitor the players’ individual learning plans.

Carss, who made 89 appearances for the Club in midfield between 2003 and 2006, initially joined the Academy’s technical staff as a part-time coach in 2007 before being named Professional Development Coach alongside Lead Coach Frankie Bunn in the summer of 2012.

When Frankie stepped up the age groups to become Senior Professional Development Coach and lead the Club’s Development Squad in July 2014, Carss became Lead Professional Development Coach, taking full time charge of the Under-18s.

Professional Development Coach Leigh Bromby will now lead Town’s Under-18 group, taking responsibility for the managing and delivery of coaching daily as well as managing the Under-18 team in the Professional Development League.

Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Steve Weaver explained:

“We interviewed several impressive external candidates for this role, which is an important one for the future development of the Huddersfield Town Academy.

“However, after a thorough interview process, it was clear that Tony was the right candidate for this role. His ability to articulate a clear coaching programme and put the theory into practise was exactly what we were looking for.

“Tony’s strengths are on the coaching side; he has an excellent understanding of methods of delivery and is an innovator, frequently benchmarking against the best in football. He’s the right man to help our coaches improve and deliver a higher standard of footballer for the Huddersfield Town First Team.”
