Narrow defeat in South Yorkshire for the young Terriers

- Town Under-23s lose vs Sheffield Wednesday
- 58th minute goal seals defeat at Sheffield FC
- Highlights on HTTV later this week

Huddersfield Town’s Under-23 side lost a competitive Professional Development League game by a single goal to host Sheffield Wednesday on Monday afternoon.

Two young sides, featuring none of the permitted overage players, fought out a competitive affair that was settled by a 58th minute goal for Sheffield Wednesday’s Fraser Preston at Sheffield FC’s Coach and Horses Stadium.

Town had much the better of the first half and were only kept at bay by impressive Owls ‘keeper Dan Wallis, with the eventual winning goal coming after an error from a Town player on the edge of their own penalty area.

Three Under-18 scholars started for Frankie Bunn’s side – Jordan Williams, Dom Tear and Luca Colville – whilst Lewis O’Brien also completed his comeback from a foot injury sustained in early October.

Town stopper George Dorrington made an early stop to deny Wednesday’s Sean Clare before the chances started flowing for Bunn’s side.

Wallis made a smart double block to deny O’Brien and striker Rekeil Pyke before a more impressive save soon after; he flung himself to the left to push Jack Boyle’s pile-driver around the post.

Perhaps the best save of the lot came in the 28th minute, when Wallis somehow kept out Tear’s goal-bound effort.

The second half was more devoid of clear-cut chances as Town's performance level dipped. Dorrington had to be alert early on to save from Owls captain Jack Stobbs and Connor O’Grady should have done better following up, diverting the ball wide.

When it came, the goal had some controversy about it. There was a suggestion that Wednesday’s Devante Rodney fouled the Town player who made a mistake in possession deep inside his own half, but after that the Wednesday man did well to pick out teammate Preston for the goal.

Town’s best retort was a late chance for joint top scorer Pyke, but Wallis was on hand once again to save the shot with his legs.

Highlights of this game will appear on HTTV later this week.
