Cedwyn Scott scores in defeat for young Terriers

- Town Under-18s defeated by Sheffield Wednesday
- Cedwyn Scott scores again for young Terriers
- Debuts for three Under-16 players

A young Huddersfield Town Under-18 side was defeated by visitors Sheffield Wednesday at PPG Canalside on Saturday morning.

Tony Carss’ ranks were depleted by a combination of the Under-23s involvement in the Premier League Cup against West Brom on Friday and an internal friendly.

That handed opportunities to several Under-16 players, with Dahomey Raymond and Saul Milovanovic making debuts on the afternoon – as well as second half substitute Darnell Mintus, an Under-15 player.

Another two Under-16s started the game in Scott High and Ben Jackson, although both have played for the 18s previously.

The young Terriers fell behind inside six minutes when a deep cross from the Town right was headed home at the back post, but they almost responded in style when Harry Clibbens’ long diagonal pass released right back Alfie Raw into space and he cracked the post with a low volley.

Wednesday doubled the advantage within a few minutes of the restart for the second half, with a downward header from a corner being diverted past goalkeeper Ryan Schofield on the line.

Town pulled one back when impressive left winger Jackson’s shot was parried by the goalkeeper into the path of top scorer Cedwyn Scott, who showed great composure to skip past last defender and slot home.

However, Wednesday scored the final two goals of the game. First a direct free kick found its way past the defensive wall and inside the near post before a late penalty added a wider distance to the scoreline.

Town’s team (4-4-2):
Ryan Schofield; Sam Gibson, Harry Clibbens (c), Callum Elliott (Saul Milovanovic, 85’), Alfie Raw; Ben Jackson, Isaac Marriott, Dahomey Raymond (Darnell Mintus, 63’), Scott High; Cedwyn Scott, George Danaher

Unused subs:
Carl Rushworth, Matty Daly, Ben Mills
