- Comments from Head of Goalkeeping Nick Colgan

19 year-old goalkeeper George Dorrington has today joined Huddersfield Town as a free agent.

He has put pen to paper on a one year contract running until 30 June 2017, with the Club having the option of a further year’s extension at that point.

Dorrington spent time on trial with the Terriers last season, impressing in two starts for Frankie Bunn’s title-winning Under-21 side.

He will now join up with Town’s Development Squad to start the new season, working alongside fellow summer signing Luke Coddington and existing goalkeeper Tadhg Ryan.

Born in Bristol, Dorrington joined Manchester United in July 2013 and has played for the Red Devils’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides.

He also gained further playing minutes through short loan spells at Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.

He left Old Trafford when his contract expired at the conclusion of the 2015/16 campaign.

Huddersfield Town’s Head of Goalkeeping Nick Colgan commented:

“George is an absolutely smashing kid and we had a good look at his goalkeeping abilities in the two games last season too. He’s a little bit unorthodox, but he keeps the ball out of the net.

“Importantly, his distribution is very good. First and foremost we want a goalkeeper to make the saves but given how the Head Coach wants us to play, we need a footballer as well.

“The challenge now is for George to earn a new contract and push his way into Frankie’s thoughts. Competition will be fierce between the three in that group, combined with second year scholar Owen Brooke and first year scholar Ryan Schofield, who performed excellently in the Under-21 semi-final and final last season.”

Watch the Terriers in action in 2016/17 with a Season Card; still £179 until 15,000 sold!
