The Huddersfield Town Foundation is one of 72 EFL clubs today coming together for the EFL’s Community Day of Action to highlight and showcase its impact on the local community.
To support the #EFLdayofaction, the Town Foundation is holding a fun day at Shepley Junior School.
Club Ambassador Andy Booth and Terry the Terrier will be in attendance to meet the children who have all dressed up in blue and white to celebrate the day.
Sessions will be ran for each class at the school every 30 minutes, starting at 9.30am as the children are introduced to physical activity, Huddersfield Town and the Town Foundation – there are also prizes for the children to win during the day.
More than one million people are now participating in football-led community programmes and activities every season.
EFL Clubs use the power of football to have a positive effect on thousands of people’s lives in the UK every day, helping participants to improve their lives with programmes focused on health and wellbeing, education, community outreach and much more.
The EFL’s Community Day of Action presents a unique - and brand new - opportunity for all EFL clubs to simultaneously raise awareness of the impact they are having by creating a national platform to highlight the community work that happens across 72 towns and cities, 365 days a year, seven days a week.
Approximately £50 million is being invested every season by the EFL Trust and Club Community Trusts into key areas, using the power of football to help people in need across sport, education, health and community engagement programmes.
The work is having a significant impact in communities up and down the country.
The Huddersfield Town Foundation is the official charity of Huddersfield Town and was launched in July 2012.
The Foundation has recently been relaunched to develop a ‘One Club, One Community’ ethos and to operate across four different themes of Health, Inclusion, Sport Participation/Engagement and Education.
Since its inception, the Town Foundation has launched 22 successful breakfast clubs serving over 630,000 breakfasts to children.
Alongside the breakfast clubs the Foundation has also offered children unique opportunities and trips free of charge to give them experiences and memories which may not have previously been already possible.
This includes taking almost 2,000 local children to the Club’s two Play-Off Final games at Old Trafford in 2011 and at Wembley in 2012.
Shaun Harvey, EFL Chief Executive, said: “EFL clubs play a pivotal role in their communities and what our inaugural Day of Action makes abundantly clear is how this work is having a significant impact, not just on match days but seven days a week, 365 days a year.
“The power of football continues to be used to improve people’s health and wellbeing and provide increased opportunities to develop individuals’ education and career prospects.
“Such important work should be commended and clearly illustrates how EFL clubs and their Trusts are contributing to society outside of the game, achieving tangible results and lasting change.”
