Rekeil Pyke scores in season-opener

- Town's Under-23 side draws season-opener
- Striker Rekeil Pyke equalises against Charlton Athletic
- Hefele, Paurević, Palmer, Davidson & Dempsey feature

Frankie Bunn’s Development Squad kicked-off its 2016/17 Professional Development League season with a competitive 1-1 draw against Charlton Athletic at PPG Canalside on Sunday afternoon.

Bunn’s side – defending its national title this term – featured three of the First Team’s summer recruits on the day; centre back Michael Hefele, midfielder Ivan Paurević and attacker Kasey Palmer.

First Team squad members Jason Davidson and Kyle Dempsey also started after playing no minutes in the first three senior games of the season.

However, it was another man with First Team experience – Charlton striker Karlan Ahearne-Grant – who opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour, converting from the penalty spot after a foul by Davidson.

The young Terriers levelled just before the interval when a shot from Regan Booty was parried by the visiting goalkeeper into the path of striker Rekeil Pyke, who converted the rebound.

Highlights of the game will appear on HTTV early this week!

Town’s team (4-2-3-1):
Luke Coddington; Jason Davidson, Michael Hefele, Jacob Hanson, Jordan Williams; Regan Booty, Ivan Paurević; Lewis O’Brien, Kasey Palmer (Jake Charles, 46), Kyle Dempsey; Rekeil Pyke

Unused subs:
Tadhg Ryan, Fraser Horsfall, Jack Senior, Sam Warde
