Huddersfield Town Head Coach David Wagner explained to htafc.com that without the incredible support from the Club’s supporters his side may not have scored the equaliser.
The 45 year-old said the supporters gave his players extra energy on the pitch and helped them create opportunities to get the equaliser.
“The home support again was unbelievable,” explained Wagner.
“The supports deserved the equaliser because they brought us into the final third, they brought us to the free-kick. This was a goal that they deserved.
“The supporters in the stands helped us to bring extra energy onto the pitch.
“The lads took the energy and atmosphere on the grass and created some good situations in the box and then there was the magic moment from Nahki (Wells) when he scored his free-kick. He was relaxed in this moment and it was quality.”
Despite dominating large spells of the game, Wagner insisted he wasn’t disappointed to only come away with a point.
He stressed the importance of a good performance and said the mood in the dressing room was positive.
“I said this in the dressing room; the mood has to be positive.
“I don’t think many teams would come back from a goal down after they invested as much as we did and created as many chances as we did.
“We created so many chances and then conceded a sloppy goal, not many teams will come back after this experience and then score an equaliser in stoppage time.
“My mood and the mood in the dressing room is positive. We take this point and I am very proud we put in a good performance again.
“Sometimes you don’t get the result you deserve but the most disappointing thing today was the fact we conceded a sloppy goal. In this situation, we have to defend better, we have to clear the ball better and put it into the stands”
Dean Whitehead captained Huddersfield Town today in what was his 600th career appearance. Town’s Head Coach revealed how important the midfielder is to the team.
“Many congratulations to Deano (Dean Whitehead), his 600th appearance was a good one.
“He helped us massively today. He was very aggressive, energetic, kept the ball and was able to speed up the game in the right moments.
“He played totally relaxed after his yellow card and he helped us a lot. He is an important player for me even if he doesn’t start or isn’t in the squad he is important for our team.
“I can trust him on the grass and he gives me a good feeling as a Head Coach.”
Town’s next opponents are Wigan Athletic on Monday 2 January in just two days time and Wagner stressed the importance of recovery.
“First of all everyone is healthy after today’s game, which means we will have more or less the same squad together. We will all be in training tomorrow to recover and then travel to Wigan.
“We will prepare as well as we can, the recovery strategies are a big part and we have to do a lot of things right to be as fresh as we can.
“Freshness and fitness will be a big part of the game on Monday; we have to make sure we do everything right, find a plan against Wigan and stick and trust in what we are doing.
“The atmosphere is really special at the moment, the players really trust and believe in what they are doing.”
