New players to start two year scholarships next term

- HTAFC's 2017/18 scholars confirmed
- 10 players to begin two year scholarships
- Nine other players to begin second year in U18s

10 Under-16 players will begin two year scholarships with the Huddersfield Town Academy from the start of the 2017/18 season, with the goal to eventually become professional footballers.

Starting from next season, the new scholars will form Town’s Under-18 group alongside the current set of first year scholars to complete a full programme of fixtures and full-time training under Professional Development Coach Leigh Bromby.

Alongside their on the field activity, they will also complete an apprenticeship in sporting excellent programme, headed by the LFE and Town.

They will join the contingent of current scholars who will start their second year in 2017/18 to form Town's Under-18 group; goalkeeper Ryan Schofield; defenders Sam Gibson, Cameron Taylor, Oran Thompson and Jordan Williams; midfielders Isaac Marriott and Dom Tear and attackers George Danaher and Olly Dyson.

Details of the incoming first year scholars are below:

Matty Daly 4_3

Matty Daly
Midfielder

Matty hails from Stockport and joined Town’s Academy from Everton as an Under-15 player. An attacking midfielder who usually plays in one of the wide positions behind the striker, he’s already featured for Town’s Under-18s regularly towards the end of the current season, netting five goals in 11 starts and three substitute appearances.

Jordan Eli 4_3

Jordan Eli
Defender

A relative newcomer to the Town Academy, Jordan joined the Club during the current season from local football in the Bradford area. A left-sided central defender, Jordan is the son of former Burnley and Crewe Alexandra striker Roger Eli.

Scott High 4_3

Midfielder

Box-to-box central midfielder Scott is one of the longest-serving new scholars, having joined the Academy at Under-9 level from junior football in Penistone. Based in Sheffield, he has also featured for the Under-18s as a schoolboy this season, making two starts and five substitute appearances.

Ben Jackson 4_3

Midfielder

Another Stockport native, like teammate Matty Daly, Ben joined Town’s Academy at Under-15 level.

A pacy, left footed player, Ben can play out wide in either defence or midfield and is another player to have made his breakthrough into Leigh Bromby’s Under-18 side this season; scoring once in seven starts and three substitute appearances.

Ben Mills
Striker

Hailing from Cheshire, Ben joined Town at Under-14 level. A natural striker, Ben possesses pace and likes to play on the shoulder of the last defender. He's a regular for the Under-16s, but is still awaiting his Under-18 debut for the Club.

Saul Milovanovic 4_3

Saul Milovanovic
Midfielder

Like many of the new scholars, Saul has already featured for the Under-18 team; he’s made four starts and four substitute appearances this term.

A physical player, Milovanovic has featured in the centre of defence and as a holding midfielder this year.

Hailing from the Oldham area, Saul joined Town as an Under-12 player from local junior club Heyside.

Micah Obiero 4_3

Striker

Forward Micah only joined the Town Academy midway through the 2016/17 campaign after a successful trial period from the XYZ Academy in Hackney, London.

The striker has made his Under-18 debut for the Club already, featuring as a substitute once towards the end of the Professional Development League season.

Mason O'Malley 4_3

Mason O’Malley
Defender

Mason is a left back who lives in Leeds; he joined Town at Under-14 level from Hunslet Boys.

His debut for Town’s Under-18 team actually came in his Under-15 year, which he added to with a further three starts and three substitute appearances this year.

He’s also featured in training camps for the Republic of Ireland Under-16 side during 2016/17.

Midfielder

The most local of the new scholars, tall central midfielder Dahomey lives in Deighton, Huddersfield, and first joined the Club as an Under-14 player.

Like many of his colleagues, he has made his Under-18 bow for the Club, making one start and one substitute appearance this term.

Jordan Thomas 4_3

Jordan Thomas
Defender

Like his teammate Micah Obiero, defender Jordan joined the Terriers this season after a successful period on trial from London’s XYZ Academy. An athletic, attack-minded right back, he has made a solitary start for Town’s Under-18s already.
