MICHAŁ HELIK NAMED HARGREAVES MEMORIAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

28 April 2024

Huddersfield Town defender back-to-back winner of Club’s Player of the Year trophy

- Michał Helik named Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year
- Huddersfield Town defender had also won in 2022/23 season
- Sorba Thomas and Jack Rudoni runners-up in supporter vote

Following in the footsteps of legendary defenders Tom Cowan, Peter Clarke and Christopher Schindler, centre-back Michał Helik has become our latest back-to-back Hargreaves Memorial Player of the Year winner!

Also winning the award in his first season as a Terrier in 2022/23 after joining on deadline day from South Yorkshire neighbours Barnsley, the Polish defender has again finished highest the annual supporter-led vote, beating Sorba Thomas and Jack Rudoni to the honour.

Tom Cowan (1996 and 1997), Peter Clarke (2010 and 2011) and Christopher Schindler (2018 and 2019) had been the only three back-to-back winners of the award, with Helik keeping good company as he adds his name to that illustrious list.

Just as he was at the end of the 2022/23 season, Michał was awarded the Hargreaves Memorial Trophy before our final home fixture of the season by Sarah and Kelly from the Hargreaves family and Steven Chicken of We Are Terriers, who helped conduct the supporter vote.

With a Club high nine goals across the season and 41 appearances under his belt in all competitions, Helik has also been captain on 11 occasions in Jonathan Hogg’s absence, establishing himself as a leader in the dressing room. A towering presence in both boxes, committed defender and model professional, Michał has been a fan favourite since arriving in West Yorkshire last summer.

Congratulations on the award, Michał!
