WORTHY: REWARDING EXPERIENCE TO WIN BOTH GAMES

Huddersfield Town B Team Manager Jon Worthington speaks after two important wins for his side

- Huddersfield Town B 2-1 Manchester City
- Town B also beat Brentford 3-2 at weekend
- Comments from B Team Manager Jon Worthington

Huddersfield Town B Team Manager Jon Worthington was pleased with his group when reflecting on a busy few days that saw his side win two real tests against both Brentford and Manchester City.

Travelling to St. George’s Park at the weekend to face the Bees and hosting Manchester City behind-closed-doors at home earlier today, the B Team won both games thanks to a goal from Josh Koroma in each with a Kyle Hudlin brace the difference on Saturday and a finish from Rarmani Edmonds-Green enough at home against the Citizens.

Looking back on the wins and performances, B Team Manager Jon Worthington said there were real positives to be taken, highlighting the attitude of his group.

“I think we’ve had two really high challenges. Brentford are a really competitive team who are very well organised and want to win, they’ve got that kind of mentality so it was a really good game at St. George’s Park on Saturday.

“We’ve followed that up with a game against a very talented Manchester City team who tactically can give you lots of problems and different challenges.

“They’re two slightly different types of games but I think the lads have come away from both with a lot of credit, their attitude has been top and that’s all you can ask for.

“We can take some real positives from those two games.

“When the attitude of the more senior players is right it can add a lot of value to the group.

“Josh and Rarmani have come back from loan and played in these two games because it’s important for them to get minutes so that they’re sharp and ready if they’re called upon.

“Their attitude around the group has been excellent, and they’ve really helped to not only keep the level but to take it up really high.”

Discusses his team and both matches in more detail, Worthington spoke about the talent within his side and their ability to stick to task and remain disciplined – attributes that put them in a position to overcome two strong sides in quick succession.

“It’s really enjoyable for me to be working with this group, they’re a really talented bunch of players.

“We have different types of players with different strengths so it’s been good, the games have been excellent and the performances have followed that.

“I think the structure of the team was most pleasing for me.

“Yes, there were some excellent individual performances which is also what developmental football is about, but as a whole we were disciplined, concentrated and they communicated really well which you have to against a team who play like Manchester City, because they try to impost their style of play on you.

“We got the balance right today of when to sit off and also recognised when we could get after them and press them.

“Games against teams like Brentford and Manchester City are really good for us, because we’re a team and a group who can dominate games and we do that a lot, so it’s good to go up against sides where that’s harder and looks a bit different.

“This where it’s about concentration, and staying concentrated for long periods of games and they definitely did that today.

“With all that considered, it’s then really rewarding for the lads to win the game as well.”
