ACADEMY’S HANSON SIGNS PRO DEAL
24 March 2015
First year Academy scholar Jacob Hanson has today signed his first professional contract with Huddersfield Town.
The 17 year-old, who hails from Kirkburton and joined the Terriers from local side Kirkburton Juniors as a 13 year-old, has put pen to paper on a long term deal.
Known as ‘Jabba’ to his teammates, Jacob can play in a variety of positions. Although he started life off as a striker turned winger in his early days at the Town Academy, he now plays the majority of his football at centre back or right back – using his searing pace to good effect.
Despite only starting his two year Academy scholarship this season, Jacob has made a big impact on Town’s Under-21 and Under-18 sides so far this season.
Ahead of today’s Under-21 game at Colchester, Jacob has already made 10 starts and three substitute appearances for Frankie Bunn’s Development Squad, adding to a further 20 starts and one substitute appearance that have heralded one goal for the Under-18s.
Huddersfield Town’s Academy Manager Mark Lillis commented:
“Jacob has made tremendous progress in the first year of his scholarship at the Academy and this contract is just rewards for that.
“He’ll continue to work under Tony Carss and Leigh Bromby in our Under-18 group day to day, as well as with Frankie Bunn and the Development Squad.
“Jacob’s contract is the latest piece of good news in what has been a good few weeks for the Academy, following on from a contract for fellow scholar Rekeil Pyke and First Team debuts for graduates William Boyle and Jake Charles.”
Jacob was introduced to the John Smith’s Stadium crowd during the half-time interval of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship game against Fulham to collect a certificate having been named in the League Football Education’s ‘The XI’ for February 2015 – click HERE for full details.
