B TEAM: JONES AND FALLS SCORE IN CENTRAL LEAGUE

7 March 2024

Town’s B Team victorious on the road against Mansfield Town

- Mansfield Town 0-2 Huddersfield Town B
- Goals from Pat Jones and Conor Falls
- Jacob Chapman returned from injury

Town sit second in the Central League table after their 0-2 away win over Mansfield Town on Wednesday afternoon.

The Young Terriers now sit just three points behind Derby County, who have played a game more than the youngsters, after our win over Mansfield Town at the RH Academy.

Goals from Pat Jones and Conor Falls, on his return from injury, secured the win for Town’s B Team on the road in a game that saw Jacob Chapman and Kieran Phillips return from injury.

Jones, who got a good 60 minutes under his belt, was a persisent threat to the home defence. He had already hit two earlier efforts wide of target from good positions and probably should have had a penalty after being clattered into by a defender after crossing a ball before scoring in the 39th minute.

When the goal came, it was worth the wait. Chapman found trialist Cameron Ashia in the centre circle, who turned towards the opposing half nicely before playing a great through pass to find Jones' run inside the right back. Pat sped into the area before turning inside the final defender and reversing the ball between the goalkeeper and near post.

The lead was doubled merely three minutes later through an equally well-worked goal. Osazee Aghatise won the ball back for Town in the Mansfield half and some neat play from Shane Maroodza worked the ball to striker Falls in the area, who showed great feet to turn goalwards and create space for a shot that he placed expertly past the goalkeeper.

Town controlled the game in the second 45, although Mansfield forced Chapman into a smart low save from a free kick and hit the bar through an overhit cross.

Town will be hoping to build on this win for the next Central League game – our trip to Notts County on Wednesday 13 March for a 2pm kick-off.
